If you are reading this page you are either interesting in having your personal faith honoured through counselling or wondering if I’ll try to convert you! So allow me to clarify how faith may, or may not, come into our work together.
“I do not understand the mystery of grace-only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.” – Anne Lamott
My personal faith is an important piece of who I am, deeply shaping my life perspective and affecting my life choices. It’s important that you know that a component of this core believe is that all people are of value and deserve to be treated impartially with empathy and compassion whether or not we share similar faith beliefs.
As a result I allow my clients to set the spiritual tone for our sessions together. If you wish to discuss spirituality in general we will. If you would like to pray together we will, but I leave this choice to my clients: unless you request this input we will focus purely on psychological counselling.
“It was important to me to know that my response to my struggles fell within the Christian faith. I feel more peace, contentment and freedom as I make efforts to resolve the issues that challenge me.” – Alex, Christian who lives with depression
“From my perspective Cheryl has more to offer because she is supporting me therapeutically, as well as from a shared faith perspective.” – Wanda, a Christian with anger issues
